Jackson Suber Earns Highest Finish for the Rebels, Places 11th Overall

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Over three days of play at the 2022 SEC Championship, Ole Miss men's golf wrapped up Friday in 12th place overall, with the Rebels logging a three-day team score of 863 (+23) to conclude its week at Sea Island Golf Club.

Needing to finish within the top eight of the team leaderboard in order to qualify for the match play portion of the tournament set to begin on Saturday, the Rebels fell short of extending their conference championship run despite gaining a position each of the last two days of competition.

"We are disappointed in how we came out of the gates this week. Our goal was to win this championship and anything less stings," said head coach Chris Malloy. "The last two days were a step in the right direction and will give us some confidence going forward. We have to turn the page and prepare ourselves for the NCAA Tournament."

Jackson Suber capped off his run in Georgia, by firing home his second round under par of the week, carding another 69 (-1) on Friday to finish tied for 11th. Suber's tournament concluded with him tallying eight birdies on the week, finishing par or better in all three rounds and tied for the third-highest par-4 scoring (-3) of any golfer in attendance. His 11th place finish marks a new personal best for Suber at the SEC Championship, having bested his 2021 finish of 20th from a year prior.

Redshirt-freshman Kye Meeks wrapped up the first SEC Championship of his career by recording the best round of his tournament on Friday, carding a 70 (E) finish with a three-day total of 217 (+7), tying him for 49th. Meeks' strong round on Friday can best be attributed to his play on the opening nine holes of the day, where he would shoot two-under before eventually settling back to even to conclude his round.

Both Sarut Vongchaisit and Evan Brown wrapped up their respective tournaments by tallying rounds of 73 (+3) on Friday, leading to Vongchaisit's eventual tie for 54th place and Brown finishing in sole possession of 64th. Brett Schell would cap off the Rebels' rotation on the day by shooting a 75 (+5) to finish in 66th overall.

Vanderbilt would ultimately go wire-to-wire in stroke play to claim the No. 1 seed headed into Saturday's SEC Quarterfinals, finishing with a three-day team score of 824 (-16).

Ole Miss now awaits to learn its fate with the NCAA Men's Golf Selection Show taking place May 4 on the Golf Channel. The Rebels will be aiming to punch their ticket to one of six regionals hosted by Texas A&M, Florida Atlantic, Yale, Pacific, Alabama, Ohio State and Arizona State, which will run May 15-18.
