Multiple Career-Highs at Auburn Individual Give May Her First FOTW Nod as a Rebel
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss women's golf freshman Maddie May was recognized as Co-SEC Women's Freshman Golfer of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
The announcement comes following a career day for May at the Auburn Individual tournament in Auburn, Alabama, where May would end her trip with a career-best 11th place finish overall. This marked the first top 20 finish of May's collegiate career, with May finishing the second-highest of all freshmen in attendance.
May also would log a second round score of 70 (-2) to help her leap up the leaderboard in Auburn, a score which would also mark a new career-low 18-hole round for her in just her third tournament appearance at Ole Miss. May's round of 70 marked the best round of any freshman in attendance, with May logging four of her team-high five birdies in the round.
Finishing with the fourth-best mark in par-5 scoring (-2) of all golfers in Auburn, the Christchurch, New Zealand, native marks the first women's golfer to take home SEC Freshman of the Week honor for the Rebels since Ellen Hutchinson-Kay did so in April, 2019.
May and the Rebels are back in action next Wednesday, with the team set to compete at the 2022 SEC Championships in Birmingham, Alabama. The tournament will run April 13-17 at Greystone Golf Club.
