Men’s Basketball Hosts Tusculum Monday for Exhibition

10/29/2023 | Men's Basketball

OXFORD, Miss. – One of the most anticipated seasons in program history offers a soft opening on Monday, October 30 to the fans, as the Ole Miss men's basketball team welcomes Tusculum to the SJB Pavilion at 7 p.m. for an exhibition game. Admission to the game is free.

Much of the excitement in Oxford can be attributed to the hiring of Chris Beard as the new head coach for Ole Miss last spring. The 2019 AP National Coach of the Year has taken three different programs to the NCAA Tournament since 2016 and is a perfect 5-0 in the opening round. Beard's career win percentage of 70.7% ranks 14th among active head coaches with 10 or more years of experience.

The Rebels return their top two scorers from a season ago in Matthew Murrell (14.4 points per game) and Jaemyn Brakefield (11.1 points per game), and welcome some exciting new talent from both the transfer portal and high school ranks.

Fans are encouraged to attend the game in the Sandy and John Black Pavilion at Ole Miss, as the contest will not be broadcast.

Following their friendly matchup on Monday, Ole Miss will prepare for their regular season opener on Monday, November 6 against Alabama State.
