Soccer’s Ohba and Brown Earn 2023 All-SEC Honors

10/29/2023 | Soccer

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss' Shu Ohba and Avery Brown were each honored by the Southeastern Conference office Sunday morning as they were named to the 2023 Soccer All-SEC team.

Ohba was named to the All-SEC Second Team and Brown was named to the All-SEC Freshman Team. Brown is the first Rebel to be named to the All-Freshman team since Mo O'Connor in 2019. Both earn conference awards after excelling in their first seasons in the SEC.

Ohba started 14 matches in goal for the Rebels this season, posting seven shutouts and allowing just 13 goals. Her 0.91 goals against average was the fifth-lowest in a single season in program history. The junior led the SEC in saves and saves per game, making 67 saves for an average of 4.47 saves per game. She also finished the season second in the conference in save percentage at .838.

This is Ohba's third-career conference honor in three seasons after being named back-to-back SoCon Player of the Year at East Tennessee State in her first two seasons.

Brown started in 11 of Ole Miss' 17 matches, all on the back line for the Rebels. She logged 1,066 minutes on the pitch and scored her first career point when she dished out an assist in Ole Miss' win over Missouri.
