Women’s Tennis Battle in Loss to TCU

Kette Extends Dual Singles Win Streak to Four
FORT WORTH, Texas – Ole Miss women's tennis fought back when down, however ultimately fell short in a 4-3 loss to TCU. Despite being down two, the Rebels tied the match at three apiece before dropping the final singles match.
Emma Kette, normally at the sixth position in singles, moved to the No. 5 spot. The freshman accepted the challenge, defeating her opponent for her fourth straight dual singles win.
Ole Miss (3-2, 0-0 SEC) got off on the wrong foot in doubles play. Lillian Gabrielsen and Kelsey Mize started the match with a swift, 6-1 victory. However, No. 1 and No. 3 doubles lost their doubles matches, giving TCU (3-0, 0-0 Big 12) the first point.
Despite falling behind further with a loss at No. 4 singles, the Rebels would win the next three to take the lead from the Horned Frogs. Kette began the run, taking down her opponent with the lone, 6-4, 6-1, straight set victory. Anaelle Leclercq-Ficher and Gabrielsen found their way to victory in three sets at No. 1 and No. 3 singles. Gabrielsen dropped her first set, 6-3, before flipping the script by taking the next two sets by the same score of 6-3. Leclercq-Ficher finished almost immediately after Gabrielsen with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory.
TCU tied the match at 3-3 with a win at No. 2 singles. The match came down to the sixth position, which started later than the rest. Unfortunately, Ole Miss could not get it done and lost their second match on the road.
The Rebels return home for a four-match homestand, starting on Saturday, February 11 against Belmont. The match will begin at 1 p.m. CT in William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center.
