Gabrielsen and Mize Take Down 60th Ranked Doubles Team
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss women's tennis dropped a match at home, 4-1, to Florida on Sunday. Lillian Gabrielsen and Kelsey Mize were a bright spot, earning the Rebels' first ranked-doubles win of the season.
In doubles action, Ole Miss (8-8, 2-6 SEC) fell behind Florida (11-4, 5-2 SEC), losing at No. 3 doubles. However, the senior duo of Gabrielsen and Mize took down No. 60 Carly Briggs and Rachel Gailis, 6-4, to even the score.
It was not enough as the Rebels lost at No. 1 doubles, starting down 1-0 against the Gators.
Florida won the first two matches of singles play at the second and fourth positions. Despite being down 3-0, the rest of the Rebels kept fighting. Reka Zadori earned her team-leading 17th win of the season in a straight-set, 6-4, 6-3 victory.
Unfortunately, Emma Kette, trying to force a third set, fell short in a 6-3, 7-5 loss at the fifth spot. Gabrielsen continued her excellent weekend, grabbing the first set, 7-5. However, she could not finish in the second set, leading 5-4.
The Rebels head on their final road trip of the season, starting with their in-state rival Mississippi State. The match is on Friday, March 31, at 4 p.m. CT.
