Men’s Tennis Drops Final Regular Season Match Against Georgia

Rebels End the Year 16-8, 6-6 in SEC Play
ATHENS, Ga. – The No. 25 Ole Miss men's tennis team dropped their final regular season contest of the year on Saturday, with the Rebels falling 7-0 to the No. 4 Georgia Bulldogs in Athens.
A strong start to the day saw the Rebels (16-8, 6-6 SEC) just narrowly miss out on earning the doubles point against the Bulldogs (18-5, 12-0 SEC), as the Georgia squad took the momentum and ran with it en route to a sweep.
The Rebels were put on their backfoot early in doubles, with the No. 1 duo of John Hallquist Lithen and Simon Junk falling 6-1 to the No. 5 doubles team in the country.
Ole Miss responded back, with Lukas Engelhardt and Isac Strömberg earning a hard-fought 6-4 victory on Court 2 to level things out. The match's doubles point would ultimately be decided in a 6-6 tiebreaker on Court 3 for Nikola Slavic and Noah Schlagehauf.
While the duo was able to jump ahead in the breaker early, Georgia fought back to take the match 7-6(5), clinching the doubles point for the Bulldogs.
The Georgia squad then rolled through singles play, taking straight-set wins in all six singles matches to ultimately earn the 7-0 sweep.

The Rebels will now travel to Auburn, Alabama, for the annual SEC Championships, set to be played April 19-23. Ole Miss will have to wait until tomorrow's matches to conclude to know its exact seeding, as the Rebels currently hold the No. 7 seed.
