Rebels Receive Two Top 20 Rankings Looking To Season Opener
OXFORD, Miss. – A little over a week before the Ole Miss women's golf team opens its 2023 fall season, the Rebels check in at No. 13 in the Golf Channel Preseason Rankings and at No. 16 in the Mizuno WGCA Coaches Poll Preseason Rankings.
The Golf Channel Rankings are chosen by Brentley Romine while the WGCA Rankings are calculated based on ballots submitted by a panel of head women's golf coaches for each division with Ole Miss receiving 195 points.
After notching 11 top-10s, including a victory, the past two seasons at TCU, junior transfer Caitlyn Macnab is a huge boost to a squad that only lost one starter, Chiara Tamburlini, who was Ole Miss' low finisher in five of 12 events last season. Six of the other seven were led by Andrea Lignell, who had a breakout junior campaign with two wins and three other top-three showings.
Ole Miss head coach Kory Henkes has options after her top pair, maybe the most the program has ever had, with South Carolina senior transfer Justin Fournand, fellow seniors Elle Johnson and Ellen Hume, junior Natacha Host Husted, sophomore Nicole Gal, and a pair of talented freshmen in Sophie Linder and Filippa Sundquist.
The Rebels will kick off its fall season Sept. 11-12 for the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C. Last year, the Rebels swept the tournament claiming the team title with Lignell securing a first-place finish.
