Ole Miss Spirit Squads Caps Off Successful Week At College Nationals
1/23/2024 | Cheer, Rebelettes
ORLANDO, Fla. – Showcasing its one-of-a-kind game day experience, the Ole Miss spirit squad finished as the 2024 D1A Spirit Program Game Day National Runner-Up at the Universal Cheerleading/Dance Association College Nationals.
This marks the third straight year that Ole Miss has brought home hardware from the UCA & UDA College Nationals. Last year, the Rebels took home the National Championship crown in D1A Spirit Game Day, and in 2022, Cheer won the D1A All Girl Game Day division title.
Judged on their ability to lead the crowd, proper game day skill incorporation, execution of skills, motion technique and overall routine, both Cheer and Rebelettes competed together on stage to create one action-packed performance in the D1A Spirit Program Game Day division. Ole Miss earned a score of 185.3333 in the semifinals to advance in the top five. The Rebels went on to place second overall with an 189.4667 in the finals.
"There is no better feeling than having the opportunity to represent our university at a national level and going up against other phenomenal spirit programs," said Director of Spirit Squads and Rebelettes head coach Rachel Levetzow. "Our athletes spent their Christmas break putting in the physical and mental work to not only strive for success nationally, but they built and created a stronger culture along the way. I cannot thank our coaching staff enough for working long, hard hours day in and day out to create routines that highlight and showcase the strengths of each team. And thank you to Rebel Nation, our alumni, university and athletics department for always being our biggest supporters!"
"We take extreme pride in our game day atmosphere here at Ole Miss, and we are thrilled to showcase our traditions and spirit abilities that includes our entire program," said cheer head coach Skylar Casey. "Ole Miss is known for its incredible game day environment; therefore, our goal was to showcase how we 'Party in the Sip'. We are blessed with this opportunity to highlight our elite skills and talented athletes with our traditional routines. These athletes work hard day in and day out to represent Ole Miss in the highest standard. It was a very successful weekend for the Rebels to show out on the national level!"
In addition to their runner-up finish, cheer also grabbed fifth place in D1A All-Girl Traditional and seventh in D1A Coed Traditional. Ole Miss also had a pair of stunt groups compete, with Bella Dunnam, Madeline Kepner, Malina Sayavong and Savannah Hardin recording a fifth-place finish and Abby DeWolf, Bella Valdes, Claudia Shelton and Emma Allen taking sixth. For the Rebelettes, they also competed in the D1A Jazz division, placing 15th out of 33 teams.
