1/24/2024 | Men's Basketball
OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss men's basketball team stretched their facility record win streak at the SJB Pavilion on Wednesday night to 11 victories, taking down Arkansas 77-51.
The Sandy and John Black Pavilion at Ole Miss was the place to be on Wednesday night, as the students broke the facility record for student attendance.
The Rebels (16-3, 3-3 SEC) were strong on the boards, posting their highest rebound margin of the season at +15 as they out-rebounded the Razorbacks (10-9, 1-5 SEC) 43 to 28. Ole Miss was led on the glass by Allen Flanigan with 11, as the senior secured his fourth double-double of the season and sixth of his career, scoring 10 points.
On the first possession of the game, Jaemyn Brakefield connected on a three from the right wing to give Ole Miss a lead they would hold for the remaining 39 minutes and 39 seconds. The Rebels' second three of the game came moments later from Matthew Murrell to put Ole Miss up 10 on Arkansas, 12-2.
The home team's largest lead of the first half came with just over 10 minutes on the clock on another three from Murrell to make it 24-9. Behind 21-combined points from Murrell and Brakefield in the first 20 minutes of action, the Rebels led the Razorbacks by 12 at the half, 38-26.
The Ole Miss advantage was stretched to the 20-point mark on a three from Jaylen Murray early in the second half, before a 10-0 run down the road made it 69-43 with just over six minutes to play.
The Rebels would go on to pick up a 26-point win over Arkansas, 77-51, their largest margin of victory against Razorbacks since a 117-66 game in December of 1973.
For the sixth time this season, Jaylen Murray scored 20 or more points in a game, leading the team for the fifth time this year with 21. The junior from Bronx, N.Y. has made three or more threes in eight games this season, going 3-6 from deep tonight.
Four of the players scored in double figures, as Murray was joined by Murrell with 18, Brakefield with 11, and Flanigan with 10.
On the defensive end, Moussa Cisse, Flanigan, and Jaylen Murray each secured two steals, while Jamarion Sharp posted his 10th game of the year with at least three blocks. Their defensive effort helped Ole Miss hold the Razorbacks to the lowest points allowed to an opponent this season.
Arkansas was led in scoring by Khalif Battle with 11 points, while Joseph Pinion added 10 off the bench.
The Rebels hit the road for their next conference game, traveling to Texas A&M on Saturday, January 27 at 7:30 p.m. on SEC Network. They will return home early next week to host in-state rival Mississippi State on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.
