Rifle Comes From Behind to Defeat Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Ole Miss rifle earned its fifth win over Army, 4703-4696, coming back from a seven-point deficit. The Rebels move ahead of the Black Knights in the all-time series, winning six of the eleven matches.
Ole Miss (5-3, 2-2 GARC) landed three in the top five in aggregate scoring, including Emma Pereira, who took the top spot. The sophomore fired an 1180 after shooing the second-best score in smallbore and air rifle. Kristen Derting and Lea Horvath tied for fourth place, each shooting 1176.
Pereira and Horvath kept the Rebels close, firing 586s586s in smallbore. However, the Rebels fell seven points behind the Army (6-4, 2-3 GARC), heading into air rifle.
Despite the deficit, Ole Miss displayed a dominant performance in air rifle, finishing with three top-five and eight top-10 scores. Derting put the team on her back by tying her career high of 598, which was the highest score by either team. The fifth-year player last shot a 598 in October 2022.
Derting wasn't the only Rebel to have a great air rifle day. Pereira brought momentum from smallbore to air rifle, shooting a 594. In her first match as a counter, Martina Gratz did not disappoint, hitting a 593. Three other Rebels shot a 590 or higher, while Diamond and Hays each shot a 589 to round out the top-10.
Ole Miss is back on the range Sunday morning for a match against John Jay College. The last time the Rebels fought against the Bloodhounds, the team shot a program-record match score.
