OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss head women's tennis coach Mark Beyers announced hiring former Ole Miss men's tennis player Tim Sandkaulen as the program's second assistant coach. Sandkaulen comes back to Oxford after retiring from the pro tour.
" I am extremely excited to have Tim [Sandkaulen] back in Oxford as an assistant coach with our program," said Head Coach Mark Beyers. "He is an Ole Miss Rebel thru and thru, has a wealth of knowledge and a tremendous passion for tennis."
The two-time All-American achieved an ATP doubles career-high ranking of 172 in September and was currently ranked No. 188 in doubles. Sandkaulen amassed a 69-46 doubles record from 2021-23 in ITF and ATP pro tournaments, including 11 final appearances and six tournament wins.
In the past year alone, the Monchengladbach, Germany native, won 22 doubles matches and advanced to three doubles finals. In July, Sandkaulen and doubles partner Neil Oberleitner won The Tennis Open in Karlsruhe, Germany. In their four matches, the duo took down five top-200 players and the ATP No. 86 player.
Sandlauken was a standout player for the Ole Miss Rebels, finishing with the tenth most singles wins (91) and third most doubles wins in program history (92). He is one of two Rebels to ever win 90-plus in both singles and doubles. During his playing career from 2016-2021, Sandkaulen guided the Rebels to five straight NCAA appearances, including two Sweet 16 runs in 2018 and 2021.
"I'm really excited to be back at Ole Miss and have the opportunity to work with the women's team," said Sandkaulen. " This university has been so good to me and I'm excited to pay it forward."
Individually, he was a two-time NCAA Singles Championships qualifier and qualified for NCAA Doubles Championships in 2021. Sandkaulen and teammate Finn Reynolds finished the 2020-21 season as the No. 1 ranked doubles team in the nation with a 16-3 record. He ranked as high as No. 15 in singles during his junior year.
The All-American garnered a multitude of awards throughout his five seasons. Sandkaulen earned All-SEC First Team honors twice and Second Team in 2019. The ITA also recognized him with the ITA Southern Senior of the Year, Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship, and Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Awards in 2021.
Sandkaulen was incredible on the court but also a remarkable student and impactful in the Oxford community. He was Ole Miss' SEC representative for the Community Service Team three times. He made the SEC First Year Player Honor Roll in 2017 and proceeded to make the SEC Academic Honor Roll every year. The ITA labeled him as an ITA Scholar-Athlete in his final three seasons.
"There is no doubt in my mind that he makes our program better and our players will be able to benefit from his experience as a top collegiate and professional player," stated Beyers.
Sandkaulen earned his bachelor's degree in integrated marketing communications at Ole Miss in May 2021.
