10/13/2024 | Rifle

MURRAY, Ky. – Lea Horvath recorded a historic day as No. 6 Ole Miss rifle bested No. 9 Murray State 4723-4717, on Sunday at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range.

The senior All-American tied her program record aggregate score with a match-leading 1194. She recorded a perfect 600 score in air rifle for the fourth time in her career, becoming the only woman in NCAA rifle history to reach this milestone. Horvath tied Alaska Fairbanks' Rylan Kissell for the most by any athlete in the NCAA.

Earlier, she tied her own school record in smallbore with a 594 as the team set the third-best mark in program history with 2358.

The Rebels caught fire to start the day in smallbore. Three Rebels placed in the top five in the event.

Horvath wasted no time in tying her own school record in the event, tallying a 594 in just under one hour. She claimed the best match score by three points and had 41 center shots. She's the only competitor in the event to hit the 40-centers mark.

Gracie Dinh added another impressive performance to her weekend, recording a 590 score for the second time. She had the third-best score on the day, trailing only Horvath and Murray State's John Blanton. Emma Pereira notched a season-high 589 to round out the top five.

Dinh and Pereira joined Horvath in the top five overall scores, placing third and fifth, respectively.

Jordan de Jesus earned a spot as a counter in her second collegiate appearance. She claimed a spot in the top-10 with a 585 score.

In total, Ole Miss racked up 144 center shots in smallbore.

Horvath, Dinh and M'Leah Lambdin led Ole Miss to a 2365 air rifle score. Dinh repeated a 591 in the event, making her aggregate score average for the weekend 1181.0. Lambdin scored a 589 in air rifle, good for ninth in the competition. She finished the day with an aggregate score of 1166, placing ninth in the individual category.

In the two matches this weekend, Horvath claimed the top individual spot against Akron and Murray State, while Dinh finished second and third, respectively.

The Rebels now set their sights on a dual competition against Navy and Nebraska in Annapolis, Md., next week. Facing Nebraska will serve as the first conference competition in the Patriot Rifle Conference for Ole Miss.
