Matthew Murrell Collects Preseason All-SEC Honors

10/14/2024 | Men's Basketball

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The SEC released their preseason all-conference selections and conference poll, as voted on by the media, picking Ole Miss guard Matthew Murrell for the All-SEC Second Team and predicting the team to finish ninth.

This is the third consecutive year Murrell was selected to an all-conference preseason team. The Memphis native is joined on the All-SEC Second Team by Grant Nelson of Alabama, Jonas Aidoo and Johnell Davis of Arkansas, and Josh Hubbard of Mississippi State.

Last season, Murrell led Ole Miss in scoring for the third-straight season, averaging 16.2 points per contest while shooting 46.4% from the field, the eighth-best mark in the SEC. He wrapped the 2023-24 campaign with 1,444 career points in an Ole Miss uniform, the 16th-most in program history. His 218 makes from three in his career are currently the fifth-most in the school record books.

As a team, Ole Miss was projected to finish ninth in the loaded SEC by the media. The AP recently unveiled their preseason poll, listing nine SEC teams in the initial top 25 including the Rebels at No. 24.
