Men’s Tennis Drops Road Contest at Florida
3/22/2024 | Men's Tennis
OXFORD, Miss. – The No. 51 Ole Miss men's team was unable to navigate a tricky Top 35 matchup with the No. 33 Florida Gators on Friday, as the Rebels dropped the match 4-0 at Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
The Rebels (9-8, 2-4 SEC) dropped the doubles point to the Gators (9-8, 3-4 SEC), before the match was moved inside due to inclement weather. Florida's indoor complex only contains three courts so Nikola Slavic, John Hallquist Lithen, and Isac Stromberg got things started for the Rebels in singles.
The Rebels were put on their heels early in doubles as Stromberg and Schlagenahuf dropped their matchup, 6-2. The Ole Miss tandem of Carson Baker and Lithen strung together their 11th win together of the year as they defeated their opponents on court two, 6-3.
The Gators secured the doubles point after Florida's 67th-ranked duo took down Slavic and Lukas Engelhardt in a tight battle, 7-6 (7-4).
Moving to singles action, the Gators kept their foot on the gas as Stromberg fell, 6-4, 6-1. Lithen fought hard on court two and forced a tiebreaker in the first set, but he ultimately dropped the match, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
Although Slavic was able to force a third set in his battle against No. 66 Jeremy Jin, the Gators were able to secure the match after the senior Rebel fell, 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1.

Ole Miss will regroup and travel to Columbia, S.C. to take on the 16th-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks this Sunday, March 24 at 10 a.m. CT.
