La Sasso Earns SEC Golfer of the Week Accolade

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss sophomore Michael La Sasso was recognized as the SEC Men's Golfer of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
The honor follows the Rebel's 2nd place finish at the Cabo Collegiate where he earned his third top-5 finish of the season with an overall score of 204 (-9). La Sasso carried his team on his back in the final round at Cabo, scoring a 64 (-7) third round. The sophomore was just one stroke shy of earning medalist honors inside a stacked field that included 18 of the top 50 amateurs in the world.
During his final round, La Sasso began the day shooting even through his first nine holes but turned to a different level as he shot 7-under on his final stretch at the Twin Dolphin Club. The Raleigh, North Carolina, native made five birdies and an eagle in his last nine holes to launch him 12 spots up the leaderboard and earn his third top-5 finish of the season.
Overall on the season, the Rebel has been named to the Ben Hogan Award Watch List and the Haskins Award Watch List. All 15 of his rounds this season have counted towards the team score, and he has been Ole Miss' top finisher in every tournament thus far into the season. La Sasso is the current active SEC leader in stroke average of 68.33.
La Sasso and the Rebels return to Oxford from Cabo and have a quick turnaround before heading to the Seminole Intercollegiate from March 11-12 in Tallahassee, Florida.
