PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The 70th annual Portsmouth Invitational Tournament is set to showcase some of the top professional basketball prospects in front of scouts this week, with Ole Miss guard Allen Flanigan and forward Jamarion Sharp each earning a spot among the eight teams.
The tournament begins on Wednesday, April 17 at Churchland High School in Portsmouth, Virginia, and runs through Saturday, April 20. It's featured numerous top-prospects in the past, with an alumni list that includes Scottie Pippen, Jimmy Butler, John Stockton, Dennis Rodman, Tim Hardaway and more.
As a member of the Jani-King roster, Flanigan will be joined by two-time all-SEC forward Tolu Smith of Mississippi State and three-time all-conference honoree Kevin Cross of Tulane, among others.
Following four seasons at Auburn, Flanigan joined the Ole Miss program and finished second on the team in scoring by averaging a career-high 14.8 points per game and led the Rebels in rebounding at 6.1 per contest. He posted five double-doubles on the season and was known for filling the box score, averaging 2.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game as well.
Sharp will be joined on the K&D Round's Landscape Services roster by James Madison's leading rebounder and second-leading scorer T.J. Bickerstaff, and Memphis Tiger Jahvon Quinerly who finished third on the team in scoring.
One of the best shot-blockers in college basketball history, Sharp recently finished his Ole Miss season with 75 blocked shots, the third-most in a single season in school history. Between his one year at Ole Miss and two at Western Kentucky, Sharp finished with an average of 3.73 blocks per game, the 21st-best mark in NCAA history. His 354 career blocked shots rank 53rd all-time in the NCAA record books, tying him with another fellow notorious shot blocker, Dikembe Mutombo.
