PRC Announcement

Rifle to Join Patriot Rifle Conference

8/16/2024 | Rifle

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss rifle will have a new conference headed into the 2024-25 season as the Rebels have been accepted into the Patriot Rifle Conference, as announced by PRC commissioner Will Anti and head rifle coach Rachel Martin on Friday.

"We are fortunate to have a team of Ole Miss' pedigree and status in collegiate athletics and rifle joining the Patriot Rifle Conference," Anti said. "Ole Miss is a powerful school with a wide-reaching brand and fan base. Ole Miss has been a national contender for the last four seasons, placing in the top-three during the 2020-21 season."

Conference officials met on Friday, Aug. 9, and came to a unanimous 6-0 decision in favor of immediately adding Ole Miss for the beginning of the season.

The PRC is an NCAA affiliated conference, sponsoring rifle-only programs and competitions. Organized in 2012, the PRC is home to 14 national titles, including the past two champions, TCU and Alaska.

Ole Miss joins six other programs in the PRC: Air Force, Alaska, Nebraska, Ohio State, TCU and UTEP. With the inclusion of the Rebels, there are now six primary conferences represented amongst teams in the PRC. The Rebels will serve as the only primary member of the SEC conference.

Last season, the PRC had the highest number of All-Americans of any conference. The conference boasted team success as well, with two of the three national title contenders hailing from the PRC.

The Rebels previously competed in the Great American Rifle Conference. Since 2006, Ole Miss produced over 60 All-GARC accolades and 2022's GARC Shooter of the Year, Lea Horvath. In team competition, Ole Miss placed third or better in the GARC Tournament for the past three seasons.

"Ole Miss' desire to join the PRC is a great example of this conference strengthening," Anti said. "As the landscape of the NCAA changes, the PRC continues to adapt, grow, and find ways to bolster the teams within the conference."
