Ole Miss Soccer: Between the Posts for 2024
8/6/2024 | Soccer
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss women’s soccer returns one of the premier keepers in the SEC along with young talent and new faces. Shu Ohba returns for her senior season alongside sophomore keeper Sarah Margaret Seabrook. A new addition to the roster is Utah transfer Taylor Prigge who arrives in Oxford after two years in Salt Lake City.
Ohba enters the season fresh off competing with Team Japan as an alternate goalkeeper at the 2024 Paris Olympics. In her 15 games last season she led the SEC in saves and saves per match, making 67 saves for an average of 4.47 per game. Ohba ranked second in the conference in save percentage (.838) and posted seven shutouts in her 2023 campaign.
She collected a season-high seven saves in three games (9/7 at Lipscomb, 9/15 vs LSU, 10/22 at Arkansas). Ohba posted the fifth-lowest single-season goals against average in program history, allowing just 0.91 goals per game.
Accolades piled up as she earned SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors twice, becoming the first Rebel since 2012 to do so. Ohba also received All-SEC Second Team honors and was selected to the 2023 United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region Team. She represented her home country of Japan in the 2023 Asian Games in China and competed in the 2024 SheBelieves Cup.

Also returning in net for the Rebels is sophomore Sarah Margaret Seabrook. The Ridgeland, Miss. product saw action in one game in her redshirt freshman campaign and made the 2023 SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll.
Depth increases at the position with the addition of transfer keeper Taylor Prigge, who comes to Oxford from the University of Utah. Prigge spent two seasons in Salt Lake City where she redshirted in the 2022 season and did not compete in 2023.
Associate head coach Rob Thompson who enters his 15th season with the Rebels is excited about the competitiveness in the keeper room.
“Our goalkeepers will create a training environment that will be beneficial for each individual’s development. Shu and Sammy have pushed each other over the past year, and both have made good progress. We’re excited that Taylor has joined and she will be and integral member of our goalkeeping group.”
Ole Miss opens the season against Southern on August 15th. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
