Men’s Golf: Leadership for the Young

OXFORD, Miss. – This year's men's golf program has the right mixture of veteran and youthful talent. The team's No. 1 ranking is a full circle moment for senior and Mississippi native Kye Meeks, who has been a part of the program since 2020.
Meeks spearheads being the veteran leader on the team guiding the freshman tandem of Jacob Blanton and Davis Gochenouer.
Blanton also hails from the Magnolia state and earned four varsity letters at Oak Hill Academy. He held a 69.10 scoring average his junior season and followed that with a 68.30 average his senior year.
Gochenouer brings a quiet demeanor to the course in his first season of collegiate golf. The Dayton, Ohio, product earned four letters at Archbishop Alter. Gochenouer recorded five top-25 finishes in amateur events prior to his arrival in Oxford. He competed as an individual in the team's first victory of the season at the Hamptons Intercollegiate (Oct. 7-8). He carded a low round of 74 in the event and had 12 birdies across his three rounds at Maidstone Club.
Meeks enters his final spring after a productive fall slate. It was a solid wire-to-wire fall for Meeks in 2024 as he recorded the best finish of his career at the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational, finishing tied for second. He added a career-low 18-hole score in Biloxi after a 7-under 65 in round two.
Meeks came out of the gates hot to start the season firing a career-low 54-hole score of 205 at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate (Sept. 6-8). He finished inside the top-15 in three of the four events and carded five rounds in the 60s.
Ole Miss returns to competition Feb. 1-2 at the Thomas Sharkey Individual. Georgia Southern will host the two-day event in Statesboro. The program will play their first team event of the spring Feb. 10-12 at the Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande.
