No. 19 Men’s Basketball Drops Saturday Contest Against No. 22 Mississippi State

OXFORD, Miss. – The No. 19 Ole Miss men's basketball (19-7, 8-5 SEC) team fell 81-71 on Saturday against No. 22 Mississippi State (18-7, 6-6 SEC) at the SJB Pavilion.
Ole Miss came out of the gates efficient from the floor, hitting 5-of-7 to start action. Ole Miss would lead by as many as eight over the first 20 minutes, after taking a 15-7 lead with 14:40 to play.
Mississippi State would chip away over the course of the first half, tying the game at 31 with 2:45 left. The Bulldogs would close the half on a 9-2 run, taking a 40-33 lead into the locker room. Jaylen Murray led Ole Miss with nine points on 3-of-4 shooting over the first half of action.
The Bulldogs would extend their lead to 11 making it 55-44 with 14:20 remaining in the second half. Ole Miss held Mississippi State to just 2-of-13 from three-point land over the final 20 minutes, but the Bulldogs held the edge in points in the paint and on the glass.
Ole Miss was led by Jaylen Murray with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting, Malik Dia pulled down eight rebounds to lead Ole Miss on the glass.
The Rebels will take their break from midweek action this week and travel to Vanderbilt (17-8, 5-7 SEC) next Saturday, February 22. Tipoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT in Nashville on SEC Network.
