Women’s Tennis to Celebrate 50th Anniversary Throughout the 2025-26 Season
9/22/2025 | Women's Tennis
OXFORD, Miss. – Dating back to 1975, Ole Miss women's tennis has made its mark as one of Ole Miss' most successful athletic programs. Ole Miss athletics is set to honor the women who have shaped the program for the 50th Anniversary throughout the 2025-26 season.
"Being the head coach and going into this program's 50th season is something I don't take lightly." Head coach Grant Roberts said. "This program was built by generations of strong women and incredible coaches. It's truly an honor to carry this legacy forward. This season, we will do everything we can to make those who built the foundation proud and continue the excellence that is Ole Miss Women's tennis."
Throughout the year, promotional item giveaways will be held at home matches. Make sure to be on the lookout for those dates on Twitter at @OleMissWTennis, on Facebook at OleMissWTennis , and on Instagram at OleMissWTennis.
Since being established in 1975, women's tennis has appeared in 22 NCAA Tournaments, finished in the Elite Eight four times, in the Sweet Sixteen nine times and has won three team SEC titles. Individually, the Rebels have one NCAA Individual champion, 13 All-Americans, six individual SEC champions, and 68 All-SEC Selections.
Much of this success came while Mark Beyers was head coach of the Rebels. Beyers left an indelible mark on Ole Miss, departing as the winningest coach in women's tennis history, and has been so since 2019. He guided the Rebels to 12 NCAA Tournaments, coached 17 players in the NCAA Individual Tournament and shaped the careers of eight All-Americans, including the program's only individual national champion.
Beyers' 24 seasons at the helm makes him the sixth-longest tenured head coach for any Ole Miss varsity sport in school history, alongside Billy Chadwick (men's and women's tennis, 34 years), Joe Walker (track & field, 30 years), John Vaught (football, 25 years), Junie Hovious (men's golf, 25 years) and Mike Bianco (baseball, 25 years).
One of the most notable Rebels in program history is Arianne Hartono, who, as a senior, became the first and only individual NCAA Champion after she won the NCAA Singles Championship in 2018. At the time, she defeated Pepperdine's Ashley Lahey, 6-4, 6-2.
The success of the program has been built on the foundation of countless student-athletes who have gone on to earn a degree from the University of Mississippi and take their talents around the world.
