1/3/2026 | Men's Basketball
NORMAN, Okla. – Despite a stellar 25-point performance from freshman guard Patton Pinkins, Ole Miss fell 86-70 in its first conference matchup to Oklahoma 86-70 in the Lloyd Noble Center on Saturday afternoon.
Ole Miss (8-6, 0-1 SEC) was in a contested matchup early in the first half, as there was a total of nine lead changes in the first 4:25 of play, thanks to both the Rebels and Oklahoma (11-3, 1-0 SEC) scoring a hat trick of threes in that timespan.
The game would remain close until the 11:05 mark when Oklahoma's Nijel Pack scored a midrange jumper that began a 9-0 run that forced Ole Miss to call a timeout with 8:08 remaining in the first half as the Sooners led 30-24.
With three minutes remaining in the half, Ole Miss's Pinkins would shine down the stretch as he hit two vital three pointers, one of which tied the game at 41 with 0:47 seconds to play. However, Oklahoma would head into the halftime break up 43-41.
Early in the second half, Pinkins continued to make his impact felt, hitting his career best fourth three-pointer of the game at the 16:29 mark before following it up with a layup on the next offensive possession to keep the Rebels within two down 53-51.
The Rebels would trail by three, 65-62, headed into the second-to-last media timeout; however, the home team began a 13-4 run to take a late 78-66 lead.
Ole Miss was unable to recover coming out of a timeout as Oklahoma continued its momentum to close out the game.
Ole Miss will return home for a matchup against No. 18 Arkansas on Wednesday, January 7 at 8 p.m. in the SJB Pavilion.
