Men’s Tennis Secures First Conference Win Against No. 30 Arkansas

OXFORD, Miss. – The No. 34 Ole Miss men's tennis team cruised to a 4-1 win against No. 30 Arkansas on Friday night at the Palmer Salloum Tennis Center.
Ole Miss freshman Vlado Jankanj was leading Arkansas's Gabriel Elicha Navas, 6-4, 5-1, with the chance to clinch the match.
Navas tossed the ball into the air and sent it hurling toward Jankanj, who, in one swift swing, returned the ball to Navas's left side. The ball swooped by him out of reach, giving Jankanj the clinching point for the Rebels.
It's the third time Jankanj has delivered a clinching point this season for the Rebels, and it secured head coach Jake Jacoby's first SEC win.
Ole Miss (13-2, 1-2 SEC) got the match started by securing the doubles point. The No. 40 pairing of Kai Milburn and Isac Stromberg defeated Eric Padgham and Ben Weintraub, 6-3.
The Rebels then lost one of the doubles courts to Arkansas (10-4, 0-2 SEC), putting all of the pressure on Stefano D'Agostino and Pietro Pampanin, who responded with a 7-5 win against No. 66 Connor Smillie and Jakub Vrba, giving Ole Miss a 1-0 lead.
Ole Miss rode the momentum from doubles into singles as Noah Schlagenhauf won the first singles court after defeating Arsene Pougault, 6-0, 6-2. Vrba then secured the lone point for Arkansas after he defeated D'Agostino.
With the Rebels leading 2-1, Chambonniere secured the third match point after defeating Lukas Palovic, 6-1, 6-4, setting up Jankanj to clinch.
The final two singles courts went unfinished.
Ole Miss men's tennis will travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to take on No. 7 LSU on Sunday, Mar. 27, at 3 p.m., with the match taking place at the LSU Tennis Complex.
