COLUMBUS, Ohio –Audrey Gogniat defended her air rifle individual title and No. 5 Ole Miss rifle reached the podium of the NCAA Championships for the second time in its history, finishing third overall with a 4738 aggregate on Saturday afternoon at the Covelli Center in Columbus, Ohio.

The Rebels (10-2, 5-2 PRC) shot a 2382 in air rifle to reach their aggregate. Ole Miss’ third place finish is tied for the best placement at the NCAA Tournament in program history, last time being in the 2020-21 season. First-year head coach Will Shaner capped an impressive inaugural season at the helm by guiding Ole Miss to its historic finish, as well as its first title in the smallbore event on Friday.

Gogniat made individual history by shooting her fourth career 600 in air rifle, tying Ole Miss all-timer Lea Horvath for the most by a Rebel in program history. In doing so, she also became the second woman and third ever student-athlete to achieve perfection four times at the NCAA level. She’s gone back-to-back years shooting a perfect score at both the PRC and NCAA Tournaments.

She repeated as the NCAA champion in the event after a thrilling come-from-behind final round over Nebraska’s Katlyn Sullivan. She trailed by as much as two points to Sullivan but rebounded perfectly after a slipup from Sullivan to earn the individual gold. She also outlasted West Virginia’s Griffin Lake by outshooting him on the 22nd shot of the round.

West Virginia repeated as champions, scoring a 4748 aggregate. TCU finished second with a 4741 finish. Both teams outshot the Rebels in air rifle, with West Virginia tying the NCAA all-time record with a 2395 performance to claim the victory.

Gogniat highlighted Ole Miss’ day from the beginning. She jumped to a fast lead in the first relay, reaching 30 perfect attempts by the 45-minute mark. She coasted the remainder of the way, nailing all of her final 10 shots in the center.

Jordan de Jesus, Regan Diamond and Gracie Dinh scored 594s each to fashion Ole Miss’ air rifle tally at 2382, just one point shy of breaching the program top 10 mark.

Ole Miss wrapped its season with its second consecutive 10-win year, a team title in smallbore and an individual air rifle champion in Gogniat. The Rebels finished the year with a program record 4731.1 aggregate average, never stooping below the 4700 mark.
