Rifle Sweeps No. 14 Ohio State and No. 18 UT Martin to Open Season

OXFORD, Miss. – No. 5 Ole Miss rifle opened its season with a pair of victories Saturday at the Ole Miss Rifle Center, firing a 4711 aggregate to defeat No. 14 Ohio State and No. 18 UT Martin.

The Rebels (2-0) swept the top three spots in aggregate scoring behind juniors Audrey Gogniat, Gracie Dinh and Jordan de Jesus. Ohio State finished second with a 4651, while UT Martin rounded out the field with a 4597.

Gogniat led all shooters with an 1186 aggregate, claiming the top individual spot in both smallbore and air rifle. Dinh followed with an 1180, while de Jesus shot an 1178 to complete the Rebel sweep. Senior Regan Diamond placed fifth overall with an 1166.

Ole Miss posted a 2337 in smallbore and a 2374 in air rifle, outscoring both opponents in each discipline. The Rebels occupied the top four individual spots in smallbore and the top six in air rifle.

The match began with smallbore. Gogniat set the pace with a 591, shooting at least 98 in each of her six series. She recorded a 197 in kneeling, a 198 in prone and a 196 in standing to secure the individual victory.

Freshman Kamdyn McFarland made an immediate impression in her collegiate debut, firing a 589 to finish second in the discipline. Competing outside the counter lineup, the Billings, Montana, native shot a 197 in kneeling and a 198 in prone before closing with a 194 in standing.

Dinh and de Jesus each finished with a 585, placing third and fourth, respectively. Dinh earned the edge with 32 center shots to de Jesus' 31. De Jesus highlighted her effort with a perfect 200 in prone.

Susan Carter rounded out the Rebels' counting scores with a 576, helping Ole Miss finish smallbore 28 points ahead of Ohio State and 62 clear of UT Martin. Diamond added a 575 as the remaining counter, while Gretchen Schleinkofer and Jadyn Morgan recorded scores of 577 and 574, respectively.

The Rebels continued their strong showing in air rifle. Gogniat and Dinh each fired a 595 to lead the field, with Gogniat taking the top spot on center shots, 45-44. Both juniors recorded two perfect 100 series, and Gogniat closed her day with a perfect final series to secure the aggregate victory.

De Jesus followed with a 593, while Diamond contributed a 591 to complete Ole Miss' 2374 team score. Kayla Riewe, the fifth air rifle counter, finished with a 589.

Claudia Muzik matched de Jesus' 593 while competing outside the counter lineup, placing fourth in the discipline. Freshman Avana Harford fired a 587 in her collegiate debut, matching Savannah Criddle's score. Both recorded a perfect 100 series.

Ole Miss returns to action at home Oct. 10, hosting Memphis and Nebraska.
