Ole Miss' Fall Semester SEC Academic Honor Roll Selections To Be Recognized At Saturday's Game

OXFORD, Miss. - Thirty-nine Ole Miss student-athletes will be honored at halftime of Saturday's Rebel-Tennessee men's basketball game. The student-athletes are being recognized for their selection to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll for the 2000 fall semester.

"This is an outstanding achievement by these student-athletes," said Ole Miss Director of Athletics John Shafer. "It is always gratifying to see our student-athletes perform at a high level on the field of competition and in the classroom. The accolades they have received are a tribute to them and their teams and Ole Miss. Recognizing these student-athletes at halftime is a very deserving honor."

The Ole Miss football squad placed 22 players on the SEC Academic Honor Roll. The 22 selections tied Alabama for the most in the league. Rebel players receiving conference academic honors are: German Bello, Ross Barkley, Todd Campbell, Chico Chandler, Ben Claxton, Kevin Cuthbertson, Thomas Gee, Theo Harris, Walker Hunsicker, Von Hutchins, Rickey Jones, Reagan King, Eli Manning, John Meeks, Jesse Mitchell, Jamil Northcutt, David Peden, Brad Synnott, Wes Scott, L.J. Taylor, Justin Wade and Amzie Williams.

The Rebel soccer team had 10 SEC Academic Honor Roll selections, and also had the highest cumulative grade-point average among the Ole Miss squads for the fall semester. Dallas Bird, Megan Bowman, Michaela Collins, Jessica O'Neill, Anna Sanders, Regan Scanlon, Sara Schauberger, Jennifer Soileau, Heather Wilemon and Sarah Wong all earned SEC Academic Honor Roll distinction.

The Lady Rebel volleyball squad had seven players named to the honor roll, the most selections since 1996 when eight Lady Rebels earned league academic accolades. Lady Rebels named to the honor roll are: Jaime Burns, Amie Ewing, Abby Hollander, Sarah Landsden, Renata Nowacki, Leigh Rittiner and Kira Zschau.

The Ole Miss-Tennessee men's basketball game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (CT) at Tad Smith Coliseum. The contest, which will be televised by FOX Sports Net South, is sold out.
