The Indoor Practice Facility is a culmination of three years of intense planning. Strengthened by University collaboration, it shall stand as one of the most forward thinking facilities in the country. The design process was set in motion with the desire from the top of the administration to create a product unlike any other facility in the country. It will become a flagship facility on which others will be judged.
Its form grew out of function, but yet fits seamlessly within the fabric of the University. The building nestles in between the existing Vaught-Hemingway Stadium and the new track complex. It creates a courtyard between itself and the stadium to provide an experiential pre-game gathering space. This courtyard is connected to the facility through a "Hall of Fame" entry vestibule. From this point, all public areas of the facility can be accessed. The players access the game day playing field through a secure underground tunnel. Within minutes the team can be transported from the new locker room through a portal in the southwest corner of the stadium into Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
The spatial arrangement will be the pinnacle of its success. Every support function is neatly placed around a full 100-yard practice field. The entire facility will be networked together utilizing the state of the art digital audio/visual technology. Every function related to the sport of football has been flawlessly integrated into one building.
