Search for Athletic Director Narrowed to 10
April 27, 1998
UNIVERSITY, Miss. -- The University of Mississippi search committee charged with identifying a new Director of Intercollegiate Athletics narrowed the field of candidates to 10 during a three-and-a-half-hour meeting last Saturday.
"Very productive and important" was how Dr. Robert Weems described the meeting. Dr. Weems is a law professor who is chairing both the University's Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics and the search committee.
"Committee members had individually reviewed applications prior to the meeting and then examined them together, selecting the 10 most outstanding applicants," Weems said.
The search committee will meet again in a week or more to further review candidates and determine the names of three to five finalists, who will be invited for campus interviews and meetings with the University community. "Only names of finalists will be released," Weems said.
The athletic director at Ole Miss is responsible for the administration, accountability and guidance of all aspects of its athletics programs. Duties include departmental and personnel administration, supervision of the head coaches in women's and men's sports, event scheduling, budgeting, public relations and marketing, development of private support, and compliance with all University, conference and NCAA policies and regulations.
