May 16, 2001

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Ole Miss student-athletes Lance Jones of the baseball team and Sara Schauberger of the soccer team were named to the SEC at-large sports Good Works Team Wednesday, as announced by the league office.

The at-large Good Works Team represents 17 Southeastern Conference sponsored sports, and looks to highlight a male and female athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.

Jones, a senior third baseman for the 23rd-ranked Rebels, is the co-founder of TEACH - Tobacco Education Affects Children's Health - and has collaborated with the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids in Washington D.C.

A native of Laurel, Miss., Jones helped plan and program events for the Special Olympics and has volunteered with the North Mississippi Regional Center. He received the Extra Effort Award by the CHAMPS Life Skills program and is a Phi Kappa Theta Scholar.

A senior for the two-time defending SEC West Champion Ole Miss soccer squad, Schauberger has served as an FCA Leadership Team Associate, speaking at local high school FCA meetings. She has also been a part of the Reading with the Rebels program and led Bible studies for both beginners and younger female athletes.

Schauberger established a mentorship program with Ole Miss athletes and a local children's home, and has spoken at numerous engagements, including Testimony Church and the True Love Waits Campaign. A marketing major from Russellville, Ky., Schauberger is a 2001 Verizon Academic All-American and a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
