OXFORD, Miss. - Pete Boone was hired as Mississippi's athletic director Monday, returning to a post he held from 1995-98.
"It's not often that you're able to have your dream job -- twice," Boone said.
He replaces John Shafer, who stepped down as AD last month, citing a desire to be closer to his family in Virginia.
Boone, who played football at Ole Miss from 1970-72, has been running a bank in Baton Rouge, La. He resigned as AD in 1998.
The man who hired Boone this time, school chancellor Robert Khayat, was interim athletic director when Boone joined Ole Miss in 1995. Soon after Boone became AD, Khayat became chancellor.
