Sept. 6, 2001
OXFORD, Miss. - ,The Ole Miss Athletic Department announced Thursday that it will open its memorabilia room, located in Hollingsworth/Manning Hall on the second floor of the Michael S. Starnes Athletic Training Center, to the public. The room will be open for viewing 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesday- Friday.
The memorabilia room is a unique showcase of Ole Miss sports trophies, photos and other historical items from Rebel athletics, displayed in a museum-like atmosphere. The room has been and continues to be used as a comfortable setting for coaches to talk with prospective student- athletes, and for other special events.
"The memorabilia room is a hidden treasure on our campus that we would like to share with the public," said Ole Miss Athletics Director John Shafer. "Prior to now, the room has been used exclusively in recruiting and for special events. We are pleased to make the room available, which will allow our fans an opportunity to view items from our rich athletic tradition."
Dr. Jerry Hollingsworth, an Ole Miss alumnus and general practitioner in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., joined forces with former Rebel quarterback Archie Manning in establishing the room.
