Ole Miss Athletes to Give Back to the Community This Week

Oct. 16, 2001

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss student-athletes from several sports will be out in the community in full force this week giving back to the people who support them throughout the year. The student-athletes will be reading to elementary students at all area high schools on Wednesday and Thursday and participating in Bingo Night at Azalea Gardens retirement community.

The student-athletes will be traveling to Bramlett Elementary, Oxford Elementary, Oxford-University School, Lafayette Elementary and other day care centers throughout the county. The program will give elementary age students a chance to be read to by an adult in an attempt to foster an excitement for reading. At the end of the two-day period, every elementary student in the county will have been read to by an adult.

Some of the athletes participating in the community service project include: Eli Manning, Terrence Metcalf and Kevin Thomas from the football team, Justin Reed and Jason Harrison from the men's basketball team, Sherika Wright and Tywanna Inmon from the women's basketball team, Anna Sanders from the soccer team, Pete Montrenes and Burney Hutchinson from the baseball team, and Mira Radu and Camilla Gould from the women's tennis team.
