OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss' male student-athletes were recognized for their achievements in the classroom recently, when the 2003 Hallbrook Award was awarded to the University of Mississippi for the highest graduation rate among male student-athletes in the state of Mississippi.

This marks the sixth time since 1990 that Ole Miss has received Hallbrook Award for having the highest graduation rate among male student-athletes.

"These young men bring great distinction to the athletic department by achieving high levels of success academically and athletically," said Karen Schiferl, Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Support. "I am pleased to know that Ole Miss continues to strive for excellence on the field and in the classroom. This reflects the outstanding academic efforts of our student-athletes at Ole Miss."

The award was presented to Ole Miss at the 70th annual Mississippi Association of Colleges junior/senior college conference at Belhaven College.

Created in 1984, the award is given annually to the school with the highest graduation rate of its student-athletes. One award is given for male graduation rates, while one is also awarded for female graduation rates. It is presented by: the Board of Trustees of the State Institution of Higher Learning, the State Board for Community and Junior Colleges, and the Mississippi Association of Independent Colleges.
