Rebel Sport Psychology is the team that delivers counseling and sport psychology services to Ole Miss student-athletes. Counseling involves supporting student-athletes in personal growth, making changes and addressing any mental health concerns that may arise during a student-athlete's time at Ole Miss.
Some use RSP services for one session to problem-solve or for longer to achieve personal goals.
VISION STATEMENT |
The vision of the Rebel Sport Psychology department is to use all of our internal and external resources to support Ole Miss student-athletes in becoming the person and performer they are capable of being.
SERVICES & PROGRAMS |
SPORT PERFORMANCE SERVICES
Sport performance psychology helps athletes hone the mental side of their game to achieve optimal performance. Athletes may have specific areas they want to address (confidence, motivation, concentration, goal-setting, imagery, etc.), or may want to explore their performance and goals to find areas that can be improved to help them perform at their best.
COUNSELING SERVICES
Counseling is an opportunity for student-athletes to meet one-on-one with a licensed mental health professional to discuss issues, situations or problems they wish to address, or to pursue personal growth.
TEAM-CENTERED SERVICES
Team-centered workshops, team-building, communication facilitation and more are interactive meetings with a member of the RSP staff and teams or groups and can be additional support for teams in pursuing goals.
WHEN & WHY SHOULD I COME IN TO RSP? |
An athlete can come into the RSP department any time! Some student-athletes set up a time to meet one or all of the providers to establish a relationship should they wish to engage in services in the future. Any time an athlete wants to sharpen the mental side of their game, they can come in to RSP.
If there are areas of your life you want to improve such as relationships, academic performance, time management, stress management, athletic performance and more, a student-athlete may want to come to RSP.
There are indicators that someone may be in need of support services to avoid or address a mental health challenge. The following list is not exhaustive, but are some indicators that an athlete should seek the support of someone in RSP:
- Sleep difficulties
- Concentration issues
- Loss of interest in things once thought interesting
- Loss of motivation
- Wanting to isolate/withdraw from teammates/friends/family
- Feeling irritable and impatient
- Negative self-talk
- Feeling worthless/hopeless
- Excessive fear or worry
- Feeling numb/nothing
- Feeling out of control
THE TEAM |
RSP endeavors to provide the most diverse staff possible to assist athletes in finding the right fit with their provider. In an effort to remove barriers to using RSP services as much as possible, if an athlete cannot have their needs met by someone on our team, we have relationships with providers in the community that may offer further support.
