Patton was ranked as one of the top players in his class from the state of Texas, listed as the 12th overall player by 247Sports. He joins the program a 3-star recruit and nearly cracked the top-200 nationally.

During his senior season, he averaged 20 points and nine rebounds per game while also contributing across the board with assists, steals, and blocks. Efficiency was a major part of his success, as he shot 55 percent from the field and nearly 48 percent from beyond the arc.
