Alabama Postgame Quotes

Head Coach Mike DuBose

"This was a huge win for our football team today. I was concerned about coming off the Florida win and the week off, but I'm very pleased we did the things necessary to win the football game. You have to give Ole Miss credit, they showed great character."

"I thought our team showed a lot of character to get the win. We were able to run the football, which was extremely important. Our offensive line is getting better and better. They have improved and our offense has improved. We got to play better defense. I was not pleased with our pass rush. Our front four defensive line has got to rush the passer better. We've got to do a better job of rushing the quarterback."

"I think Shaun played well. He carries this team. He gives that third and fourth effort. There is not a better football player in the country than Shaun Alexander."

"I thought Freddie Milons had an outstanding game. Freddie made a lot of clutch catches, and we have to continue to use him in the offense."

"I don't know if we are the front-runners (to win the SEC West), but we are in an advantageous position. It is crucial for you to win these games in your division."

FL Freddie Milons

"I think we have a whole lot of weapons (on offense). We've been working on our technique in practice. The offensive line has really improved. Andrew (Zow) had all day to check his reads, and find people."

"It's important to win in the SEC West. Any win in the West in the SEC is big for the team."

"My role is to keep eight guys out of the box. When they cover us, Shaun makes big plays. When they put eight guys up and cover Shaun, we (receivers) make big plays."

TB Shaun Alexander

"I played alright tonight. Our offensive line was very good. Playing behind these guys is a lot of fun."

"We don't worry about being a front-runner. We take it one game at a time."

"It (99-yard drive) was very important. It was very positive for this team. It took good receiving, good runs and good passing."

OLE MISS HEAD COACH DAVID CUTCLIFFE

"I have to commend Alabama and the job that they did. We got beat by a good football team. They played well, obviously better than we did. Shaun Alexander is a great player and it showed over and over. We both have good teams. I felt like if we had played better early in the game we could have put ourselves in a great position. I am proud of our team, to play with the intensity and the effort that they did throughout the game."

On the last drive
"It was unfortunate that we had the bobble (first down). Then we had a sack on third down. On fourth down we tried to move in the pocket. They have good athletes and they closed on us in a hurry. We just didn't get it done."

On the Rebels turnaround
"I knew our team wouldn't let up because of their character. They weren't pretending to be in the game. They were there to win. We prepared well and in the second half we started playing and making plays. There were a lot of good plays on both sides of the ball. When we got the onside kick we picked up some momentum but it just wasn't enough."

"We need an open date. Several people physically need to heal. We also need to heal ourselves, mentally. How we handle this loss is going to be extremely important. As we've said all along, we've got to disregard this score and work to get better. We have an opportunity to get better and become a really good football team. We just have to take that opportunity and seize it."

OLE MISS PLAYER QUOTES

RUNNING BACK DEUCE McALLISTER
"I thought we fought hard. We got hurt on third and long. When we needed big plays, we didn't get them. We felt like we could move the ball on them. We just didn't take care of the ball sometimes. It's a maturity thing. I knew we could back and score. We got things rolling and just ran out of time. I'm just proud I get to touch the ball and make things happen. It's all about using the talent we have. I just wish we could have done something else to get the win."

CORNERBACK TIM STRICKLAND
"It wasn't like we couldn't stop them. They are going to make plays, because they are great players. We also did some good things on defense. We just couldn't stop them on third down."

On the possibility of winning the SEC West:
"It's not over. We just have to keep our heads up. It's down to a four-game season now. We really need to win out. We still have a shot at this."

RECEIVER CORY PETERSON
"We knew we had to stop Alexander. But their whole team came out and played hard. They came and played tough. We have to put this game behind us and look to the future. We have to come out and play 60 minutes of football and take the game. I guess they just got us in the end."

"This was a big game for me personally, and I know it was big for the rest of the seniors. Personally, it's tough for me. I've played here four years, and we've never beaten them. They came out and they played hard, and I think we played hard too. They just won the game."

QUARTERBACK ROMARO MILLER
"We had our opportunities, and we just ran out of time. This hurts. I guess the only thing we can count on now is if the (SEC) West continues to be as wild as it has been. I think we just have to go out and play the rest of our season. If we win it, then so be it. If we don't, we just have to give it all we got."

On LSU:
"It's going to be a big game for us. We are going to need this week off. It's going to be a big game for us. We got a little time to heal up our bumps and bruises, and try to get back on the winning track."
