OXFORD, Miss. - The Georgia Bulldogs broke open a 1-1 game with three goals in a 16 minute stretch in the second half to beat the Ole Miss Rebels 4-1 Sunday afternoon.
With the loss Ole Miss drops to 11-7 overall and 4-5 in the SEC, while the Bulldogs improve to 11-5-1 overall and 5-4 in the conference.
Although the Rebels lost, Ole Miss claimed the SEC Western Division title after Vanderbilt defeated Arkansas on Sunday.
Although the Razorbacks and Rebels finished the season with identical 4-5 records in the SEC, Ole Miss holds the tiebreaker against Arkansas after defeating the Razorbacks 2-1 earlier this season and is the division champion.
"We really turned it on at the end of the first half and played really well," Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman said. "The final score is not indicative of how we played. The one positive is that we won the SEC West and now we can get ready for the SEC Tournament."
Beth Culver put the Bulldogs ahead in the first two minutes of the game with a goal off a corner kick from Catherine Holder. Ole Miss tied the game after Regan Scanlon scored on a 40-yard run on goal.
In the second half, the Bulldogs exploded for three goals during a 16 minute stretch that put the game out of reach. Amy Berbary gave Georgia a 2-1 lead in the 54th minute and Kristy Bongiovanni put the Bulldogs ahead 3-1 just eight minutes later.
Marcelle Colettie capped the scoring for Georgia in the 70th minute for the final 4-1 margin of victory.
With the loss, the Rebels have now dropped a season-high four consecutive games.
Ole Miss will close out the 1999 regular season by hosting the Ole Miss Soccer Classic. The Rebels will take on Kansas on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and then finish the season against the San Diego State Aztecs on Sunday at 11 a.m.
