OXFORD, Miss. -- Bridget Brooks' goal in the 86th minute sealed a 3-1 Ole Miss victory over the Kansas Jayhawks Friday night in the first round of the Ole Miss Soccer Classic.
Ole Miss improves to 12-7 overall and ends a season-high four game losing streak with the win. The Jayhawks fall to 8-9-1 overall for the season.
"This is an important win for us. We played really well in the first half and really took control of the game," Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman said. "We got a little complacent in the second half, but we were the better team tonight."
Ole Miss jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Anna Sanders scored off a rebound in the 21st minute. Michaela Collins gave the Rebels a 2-0 advantage just before halftime with a line drive shot from 15 yards out.
Nat Hoogveld pulled the Jayhawks within a goal at 2-1 with a goal off a short run in the 75th minute, but Brooks' goal off an assist from Collins sealed the Ole Miss victory. The goal was Brooks 15th on the season and her first in three games.
The Ole Miss Soccer Classic continues Saturday at 3 p.m. with the Kansas Jayhawks taking on the San Diego State Aztecs. The Rebels will close out the tournament Sunday at 11 a.m. against San Diego State.
