JONESBORO, Ark. -- After winning four consecutive non-conference matches, the Ole Miss Lady Rebel volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match to Arkansas State on the road Tuesday night.
The Lady Rebels (9-14) defeated the Lady Indians (18-6) earlier this season, 3-1, as a part of the Ole Miss Magnolia Classic in Oxford, where the Lady Rebels finished second.
Ole Miss struggled in the match offensively, with only one Lady Rebel with double digit kill numbers. Sophomore Jaime Burns added to her team leading kill total with 17 kills in the match. Senior captain Lauren Dorcheus posted the next highest kill mark with seven.
In game one, the Lady Rebels were out hit .536 to .033, committing 10 errors to only 11 kills. While Ole Miss bettered the Lady Indians in game two, .278 to .268, the Lady Rebels fell 15-12. In the final game, Ole Miss forced Arkansas State to put up 16 points to take the game and the match, 16-14.
Sophomore Abby Hollander led the Lady Rebels with a career high three services aces. Dorcheus and sophomore Leigh Rittiner led the team in blocks with two apiece, while Dorcheus recorded a match high nine digs.
The Lady Rebels will return to Southeastern Conference play at home this weekend as they take on Auburn on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Alabama on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the Women's Sports Complex. Earlier this season, Ole Miss lost to both the Lady Tigers and the Crimson Tide, 3-1, on the road. The Lady Rebels are hoping to pick up their first conference match of the season, breaking an 18 game SEC losing streak, dating back to a 3-1 victory over Alabama last season in Oxford.
