BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Stacey DeMartini Bruton, a former Lady Rebel volleyball player at Ole Miss was one of 12 women honored by the inaugural BellSouth/SEC Women Entrepreneurs of the Year program.

The program is designed to identify outstanding women entrepreneurs who have graduated from an SEC institution and either have participated in intercollegiate athletics or have supported female student-athletes as an alumnus of their institution.

"The SEC is very pleased to join BellSouth in honoring 12 outstanding women, who have excelled in their chosen fields," SEC Commissioner Roy Kramer said. "The SEC has a rich history supporting women's intercollegiate athletics. This is another way to show the commitment that BellSouth and the SEC have towards excellence in women's athletics."

To have been selected by their institution for the award, the winner must have either been a former student-athlete or formerly associated with the university's athletics department and have been an owner, operator or executive for a company in the nine-state SEC region.

Bruton graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Mississippi in 1978. While at Ole Miss, Bruton was a member of the Lady Rebel volleyball team. Bruton is currently a career law clerk with Judge Adrian Duplantier in the United States District Court in the Eastern District of Louisiana. Since 1993, she has been the managing member of DeMartini Properties, LLC which is a family-owned Louisiana limited company actively engaged in the acquisition and management of commercial and residential rental properties.

"This is a great program BellSouth has put together to honor our outstanding women," Assistant Athletic Director/Senior Women's Administrator Lynnette Schwartz said. "Stacey is a great representative for the SEC, BellSouth and our University. She truly epitomizes the whole athletic and academic experience. We are so proud she is our Entrepreneur of the Year."
