TULANE POSTGAME QUOTES
Tulane Head Coach Chris Scelfo
"Thought we played well. The field was a big factor for both offenses. It held a lot of water. We had a chance to make some plays offensively and today we didn't make them. Defensively our kids fought the whole game. We've got some people hurt, but they better not stay hurt too long. Kids stepped up and played."
"I'm crushed for our players. I thought they played well on both sides of the ball and special teams. We don't play moral games. I'm crushed for them. They fought hard, came out with enthusiasm and played hard. I hope Ole Miss realizes we gave them all they asked for."
"We made a bunch of defensive plays. You go through the course of the game. I've said all along that five or six plays during the course of a game determine the outcome. I thought our defense shut down their offense with the exception of a few big plays. The field held a lot of water and it was tough for both teams. We missed some opportunities. We had some drops that we hadn't had. You can't do that against good football teams."
Tulane QB Patrick Ramsey
"I was very impressed with our defense. They stepped up and stopped a good offense. Unfortunately we didn't hold up our side. It was a matter of me not executing."
Tulane CB Tim Carter
"We had a lot of pressure put on us after the Syracuse game. We are young and all year we've been living on that all year. And the coaches took us aside and said it was time for us to grow up. I think we did a pretty good job and we've got to keep it up.
OLE MISS POSTGAME QUOTES
COACH DAVID CUTCLIFFE
Opening comments
"It was an outstanding win. I know our defense certainly set the tempo. We did some good things throughout the whole game to contain that offensive team. We talked this was going to take a team effort. Our offense kept them off the field in the first half with long drives. We didn't convert them into touchdowns, but they were long drives with some big third down conversions. Certainly our kicking game had a hand in the win. Les (Binkley) continued to hit the ball well, and Reagan King really stepped up big when he had to. I think we are going to see a lot of things from this tape that we can improve on, a lot of things that we are going to be challenged to improve on."
"As we've said every week, disregard the previous week's score on Monday, and go back to work. We got a lot to work on, and we're excited about that opportunity to get back on the practice field. We'll see where we are on Monday."
Talk about the offensive play?
"We didn't play as well as we would like. We were off a little here and there, but we stepped up at times. Early on, we got off to a good start, but just didn't get it in the end zone. I got to do a better job of putting us in the positions I need to put us in to score. I will do a better job, and we have to execute. The other big obstacle--and this is certainly my fault--are penalties. I've never been involved in a game where we had so many big penalties that set us back and that's just tough to overcome."
Throwing deep vs. Tulane?
"We felt like they were giving us an opportunity. Most of the time, we call it where he can read it. Those opportunities presented themselves today. He (Romaro) did a good job early. We probably could have gone a little more often down the field. We also barely missed some down the field when we had open people. We thought going in that we had a chance to hit some of those long plays."
Joe Gunn?
"Joe is just tough. He comes to play, and he did today, especially in the second half. He was a little beat up, and he just went ahead and played hard. He finds a way of coming up with big plays."
Midpoint of season (5-1 record)?
"I expect to win every game we play from an expectation standpoint. Being 5-1 beats the heck out of a lot of other records out there, and I'm not being facetious when I say that. It's been a battle every week, but I am pleased that we are able to focus one week at a time. It's a challenge to do that, and it's a challenge to play at that level. This team is growing in that regard, and we got to continue to grow. I didn't think that we played as well as we could in all aspects today, but we found a way to win."
Romaro Miller?
"I think Romaro is seeing real well. He understands what we're trying to get done. He's been really solid with the ball. He's been good with the football and has put the ball in the right place. He's extremely accurate. He's playing well, and he is continuing to get better because of the way he works."
OLE MISS PLAYER QUOTES
Quarterback Romaro Miller
"We had a great gameplan going in. Coach Cutcliffe did a great job of preparing us. I don't think it was our best game offensively. We just came together and found a way to win."
Miller on his receivers
"I really do not have a favorite receiver. I just go through my reads, and if my read takes me to Cory nine times a game, then Cory is going to be the guy that game. Cory sits back and waits for opportunity to come, and hopefully they will come the next couple of games. The rest of the receivers started off not having the best of years. But they are going out and working hard, and they are improving and making bigger and bigger catches. Our offense can't be based on one receiver. Those other guys really had to step it up and they did a good job of that today."
Running Back Joe Gunn
"I felt like I wanted to play my best. In the first half they were playing good defensively. We just had to adjust and make plays."
Gunn on Alabama
"We feel like we can play with anybody in the country. It's a great opportunity for us to prove ourselves."
Running Back Deuce McAllister
"At times we were in lulls. When we had to move the ball, we found a way to do that. We played okay. We definitely must get better."
McAllister on Alabama
"Next week is going to be a big game. It's probably the biggest game since I have been at Ole Miss. They have the edge on us in the win column, but we just have to play the game. They're going to be ready to play, so we definitely have to get up for the game."
Cornerback Tim Strickland On defensive accomplishments today "We kept the ball in front of us and came up and made tackles. We kept them out of the end zone, and caused turnovers and let our offense put points on the board. Late in the game we settled down, came out and pounded the ball on offense and do what we did on defense, which is keeping them from getting first downs and moving the ball."
Linebacker Al Rice "This is my last go around, my senior year. Point blank, I want to win a ring. In order for that, I got to do my job and show players that sometimes when you need a big play, somebody has got to go out there and make them. I had a chance for two picks, and I wish I would have had them."
