STARKVILLE, Miss. -- The Ole Miss Lady Rebel volleyball team lost the first of a pair of matches to in-state Southeastern Conference rival Mississippi State 3-0 (15-3, 15-11, 15-12) on the road Friday night.
The Rebels (9-19, 0-14 SEC) will conclude their 1999 season with the finale against Mississippi State (11-15, 2-12 SEC) on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at home.
The Rebels came out slow in the first game and fell behind 4-0 quickly, before sophomore Leigh Rittiner put Ole Miss on the board with a kill and a block to bring the Rebels to within two. That was the closest the Lady Rebels would come in the first game and lost 15-3.
In the second game, Ole Miss rallied from three back twice in the game but could come no closer than being down 10-9 in the final stretch and lost game two 15-11.
Ole Miss also saw a failed rally in the third game, when it came from six back to get as close as 9-8 before Mississippi State took charge once again. Despite battling off four game points, the Rebels dropped the game and the match 15-12.
