OLE MISS TIPS OFF 25TH SEASON ...

The 1999-2000 season marks the 25th anniversary of women?s basketball at Ole Miss. In the last 24 years, the Lady Rebels have accumulated more than 500 wins, 23 winning seasons, been to 14 NCAA Tournaments, and advanced to the Elite Eight four times and the Sweet Sixteen seven times.

LADY REBELS TO TANGLE WITH TIGERS ...

Ole Miss opens the regular season Friday against Memphis at 5:00 p.m. in Tad Smith Coliseum. This will be the season opener for both teams. The Lady Rebels won both their exhibition games, a 99-94 win over the Houston Jags, and a 68-54 win over the Australia Riverland Raiders. Memphis defeated the Houston Flights 88-86 and the Mississippi All-Stars 82-64 in exhibition play. The game is part of a double-header with the Rebels, who play Jacksonville State at 7:30 p.m.

OLE MISS GAMES CAN BE HEARD ON WQLJ ...

All Ole Miss Lady Rebel games -- home and away -- can be heard on the radio on WQLJ 93.7 FM, with each broadcast beginning 15 minutes prior to tip-off. Gary Darby returns for his eighth season as the ?Voice of the Lady Rebels.? The broadcast is also available on the internet at www.WQLJ.com.

SCOUTING MEMPHIS ...

This marks the season opener for Memphis. The Lady Tigers finished the 1998-99 campaign with a 22-10 overall record, 10-6 in Conference USA. They participated in the Women?s NIT, advancing to the semifinals before losing to Wisconsin 92-73. Gone from the Lady Tigers is All-America and two-time Conference USA Player of the Year Tamika Whitmore. However, Memphis returns three starters from last year?s team including senior Yolanda Reed, junior Kelly Herron and sophomore Malissa Bush. Reed started all 32 games last year and averaged 11.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. She led the squad in assists and steals with 135 and 62, respectively.

SERIES VERSUS MEMPHIS ...

This will be the 39th meeting between the two schools. The two teams have played every year since the 1974-75 season except for the 1980-81 campaign. Ole Miss leads the overall series 27-11. Last year,the Lady Rebels defeated the Lady Tigers 70-68 in Memphis. Please see a recap of last year?s meeting on page 4. The last time the two teams met in Oxford during the 1997-98 season, Ole Miss won 93-86. Memphis? last win in the series came on Feb. 4, 1997, a 75-67 victory in Memphis.

OLE MISS VERSUS CONFERENCE USA ...

The Lady Rebels have a 49-20 record (.710 winning percentage) against schools from Conference USA. The following is a breakdown of the C-USA teams the Lady Rebels have faced and their records against those teams.

SEASON OPENERS ...

The Lady Rebels have compiled an impressive record in season openers in the history of the program. The Lady Rebels are 21-4 in season opening games.

HOME OPENERS ...

The Lady Rebels are near perfect in home openers in their history. Ole Miss is 23-2 in home openers. In addition, when the season opener is also the home opener, the Lady Rebels are 11-1.

HOME SWEET HOME ...

Ole Miss closed out another successful campaign in Tad Smith Coliseum last year. With an 86-77 win over Auburn, the Lady Rebels finished with a 10-3 record at home. Ole Miss owns an impressive 269-48 record (.849) winning percentage) at home and has never had a losing record in Tad Smith Coliseum. The Lady Rebels have gone undefeated at home four times.

OLE MISS GOES 2-0 IN EXHIBITION PLAY ...

The Lady Rebels went 2-0 in exhibition play. They defeated the Houston Jags 99-94 and then beat the Australia Riverland Raiders 68-54 last Saturday.

NINE LETTERWINNERS RETURN ...

Nine letterwinners return from last year?s postseason squad including three starters, that combined for 73 starts. In addition to Becky Myatt, the team?s second leading scorer last year, Ole Miss returns senior center Frankie Boyd and sophomore point guard Takela Corbitt. Also back are seniors Sinissia Wysinger and Tanya Bolden, juniors Chandra Dorsey, Stephanie Murphy and Heather Bantz and sophomore TaShondrea Moton.

SEVEN NEWCOMERS JOIN THE TEAM ...

Seven newcomers joined the team this fall including junior college transfers Latasha Moore of Irving, Texas and Von-Gretchen Kirk of Huntsville, Ala. Moore earned first team All-Region honors at Howard Junior College in Texas, while averaging 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game. Kirk led Trinity Valley Community College to the JUCO National Championship and was rated one of the Top 25 JUCO players in the nation. Joining them are freshmen Latasha Harris (Texarkana, Ark.), Shayla Day (New Madrid, Mo.), Leah Henley (Warren, Ark.) and Kayla Madewell (Farmington, Ark.). Harris, a first team All-State selection, averaged 12.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. Day averaged a double-double and led her team to the Missouri Final Four. Madewell was named the Northwest Arkansas Times Player- of-the-Year and a second-team All-State selection. Henley averaged nearly 20 points a game. Also joining the team this year is walk-on Kesha Howell of Oxford and Northwest Junior College.

IMPRESSIVE OUTSIDE THE SEC ...

The Lady Rebels have compiled an impressive record outside the Southeastern Conference in regular-season play in the decade of the 90s. Ole Miss owns a 112-26 record (.812 winning percentage) versus non-conference teams since the 1990-91 season. The Lady Rebels? best non-conference record of the decade came during the 1991-92 SEC Championship season, as they compiled a 15-1 mark versus non-conference foes. The Lady Rebels have an overall 65-20 record (.765 winning percentage) versus non-conference opponents on this year?s schedule.

IT KEEPS GOING AND GOING ...

With the completion of the 1998-99 season, Ole Miss had hit a three-pointer in a school record 148 consecutive games. The record dates back to the 1993-94 campaign. The last time that the Lady Rebels did not hit a three-pointer in a game was on Feb. 23, 1994, in a 73-64 win over Mississippi State in Starkville.

STARTING AT GUARD ...

With her start against Memphis, junior guard Becky Myatt will make her 60th career start for the Lady Rebels. She has started 59 consecutive games since her freshman year. In addition, Myatt has led the team in minutes played each of the last two seasons.

HERE, THERE AND EVERYWHERE ...

The Lady Rebels have made their presence known across the country visiting more than half the United States to play basketball. This year, the Lady Rebels will travel to Bozeman, Mt., to play in the Montana State Tournament then in December, they will visit Flagstaff, Ariz., for the Northern Arizona Classic.

OLE MISS VERSUS THE VOLUNTEER STATE ...

In their 24-year history, the Lady Rebels have a 77-51 (.602 winning percentage) record versus schools from the state of Tennessee. Ole Miss has a winning record in every series versus Tennessee schools with the exception of Tennessee and Vanderbilt. They are 68-50 (.576 winning percentage) versus Tennessee schools on this year?s schedule.

LADY REBELS FROM TENNESSEE ...

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION ...

Ole Miss will appear on television three times this year. The Lady Rebels? game against South Carolina will be televised by FoxSportsNetSouth. This year College Sports Southeast will televise more than 60 men?s and women?s games throughout the state of Alabama and Mississippi. The Lady Rebels will appear on CSSE twice - Feb. 3 against Mississippi State and Feb. 20 against Auburn.

DRIBBLES ...
