OXFORD, Miss. - Former Ole Miss football standout Andre Townsend will sponsor The TEI (Townsend Enterprise, Inc.) Career Placement Program to help student-athletes pursue possible career opportunities following graduation, Assistant AD and CHAMPS Life Skills Coordinator Derek Horne announced Wednesday.

"This contribution will give our student-athletes an opportunity to get a great start with their careers," Horne said. "Student-athletes' schedules are so demanding and this program will assist them in pursuing suitable employment."

Townsend's project will be part of the Ole Miss Life Skills program, and as part of the endeavor, an Atlanta-based job placement firm called Competitive Resource Group will conduct seminars and training sessions for student-athletes as they make the transition from college to their professional careers.

"I feel this program will give student-athletes an opportunity to get a good start," Townsend said.

"We are extremely proud of this generous gesture by Andre," said Ole Miss Athletic Director John Shafer. "It is so gratifying when a former student-athlete gives back to his or her University in this way."

Townsend, now living in Atlanta, was a three-year letterwinner at Ole Miss from 1981-83. He was a two-time All-Southeastern Conference selection as a defensive lineman and was in the second round by the Denver Broncos in the 1984 National Football League Draft.
