NASHVILLE - Junior Sara Shauberger's first career goal gave the Ole Miss Rebels their first-ever victory in the Southeastern Conference Women's Soccer Tournament with a 1-0 win over the Tennessee Lady Volunteers Thursday afternoon.

Shauberger, a native of Russellville, Ky., knocked in the game-winner on a header off a direct kick from junior Jennifer Soileau in the 40th minute and sends the Rebels into the semi-finals of the SEC Tournament for the first time in team history.

"Jennifer (Soileau) is an incredible player and I just happened to be in the right place at the right time," Schauberger said. "It is something you practice all year long and what a great time to do it."

After Shauberger's goal gave the Rebels a 1-0 lead at the half, the Lady Vols possessed the ball for most of the second half and held a 9-3 shooting edge over the Rebels in the half.

Senior goalkeeper Birna Bjornsdottir recorded seven of her nine saves in the second half to preserve to shutout victory for Ole Miss. The shutout was Bjonrsdottir's third of the season and first complete game shutout of an SEC opponent this year.

"Our defense was on their toes. Tennessee pressured us hard in the second half and all I was thinking was to be in the right place at the right time. I just wasn't going to let anything get past me," Bjornsdottir said.

The Rebels improve to 13-8 overall on the season and will take on the winner of the Kentucky-Georgia game at 3:30 p.m. CST Friday. The 1999 SEC Soccer Tournament is hosted by Vanderbilt University.
