OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss defensive tackle Kendrick Clancy has been selected to the 1999 Associated Press All-America third team.
Clancy, a 6-1 1/2, 270 pound senior from Tuscaloosa, Ala., helped lead Coach David Cutcliffe's Rebels to a 7-4 record this year. Ole Miss will conclude the season on December 31 against Oklahoma in the Sanford Independence Bowl.
Clancy was earlier named third team All-America by both Football News and The Sporting News. He earned first team All-Southeastern Conference honors from Football News and was a second team All-SEC pick of the Associated Press.
Selected to participate in the 2000 Senior Bowl, Clancy appeared in all 11 games despite having his playing time limited against Alabama, LSU and Arkansas due to a severely sprained ankle.
"Kendrick Clancy was as effective as any defensive lineman in our conference this year," Cutcliffe said. "He played with great consistency, although his ankle injury slowed him down. I really believe he would have been a first team pick had he not been hurt. Even with the injury, he still played like an All-American."
Starting eight games at right defensive tackle, Clancy was credited with 49 tackles, including 29 solo stops. He led the team in quarterback sacks with seven for a minus 39 yards, and also recorded a team high 18 tackles behind the line of scrimmage for a minus 74 yards.
