OLE MISS PRACTICE QUOTES
Wednesday, December 29, 1999

Head Coach David Cutcliffe prior to Wednesday's practice:
On forgetting the Mississippi State game, and getting ready for Oklahoma:
"We've had a lot of practice and done a lot of work, and we're looking forward to playing a fine Oklahoma team. Once you look at them on tape, you get anything that's not behind you, behind you real quick."

On comparing Oklahoma to an opponent from this season:
"Their offensive scheme is very similar to Tulane's, except (Oklahoma) is a more physical team. Their quarterback (Heupel) is playing as well as any quarterback in the country. They will be a very tough team to defend."

On defending Oklahoma:
"You have to be successful on offense keeping the ball and keep (Oklahoma) offense off the field. The most difficult thing about their offense is that they have thrown the ball 500 times and have only given up 15 sacks. They throw the ball on time and that makes it difficult to put pressure on them, and it's difficult to try and lay back and defend them."

On Oklahoma's defense:
"Their defense is very talented, very athletic and they run well to the football. They give you a lot of multiple looks, and that's one of the things (Oklahoma head coach Bob) Stoops has done in the past. They're going to stack the line of scrimmage with a lot of people, play pressure man coverage and try stop the run."

On how many points it will take to win Friday's game:
"I'm just worrying about trying to score one more point than they do. I don't care if it's 3-2 or 33-32, it makes no difference. I know their offense is going to make plays, they've done that all year long and they're averaging 37 points per game. We know we'll have to be successful on offense to have a chance to win the game."

Following Wednesday's work out:
"Today was our last day of work here (at Southwood High School). We got a lot of good work done in the kicking game. Today was more of a rehearsal without the pads. I'm sure the players are ready to play after as many practices as we've had."

Q: Are you satisfied with your preparations?:
"You never know. A lot of coaches are afraid to say that they're satisfied. I really do like the work we've gotten done up to this point. I'm sure I'm like you guys and are anxious to see how we'll play. Like I said, this will be a good challenge in front us, playing a very good football team."
