OXFORD, Miss. -- Junior right-hander Jeff McAvoy pitched three scoreless innings to highlight Ole Miss' final fall baseball intra-squad scrimmage.

McAvoy allowed just one hit and struck out four in his three innings of action. Freshman Cooper Campbell worked three innings of relief for McAvoy and allowed two runs, one earned, on one hit while striking out two.

McAvoy and Campbell led the White to a 6-2 victory over the Blue.

Third-year head coach Pat Harrison was pleased with Friday's game, and was happy overall with Ole Miss' fall workouts.

"I liked the way our pitchers threw tonight," Harrison said. "Jeff McAvoy and Chad Mead both pitched well. Ryan Bukvich pitched all right but still looks a little rusty. I really like Cooper Campbell, and Clint Farrar and Craig Nugen can come in throw strikes.

"This was a good fall for us. We have a lot of young players that have really blended well with our older guys. It was a fun fall, and we have a chance to have a good season this spring."

The White scored first with Brad Henderson's sacrifice fly scoring Chad Hill in the first inning. Henderson, a second team All-SEC selection last season, finished the game 1-for-1 with a walk and a sac fly.

The White then broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning. John Massey, Kris Cox, J.T. Harrison, Clint Farrar and Banks Robinson also picked up hits for the White in the decisive fifth inning.

The Blue's two runs came courtesy of Sim Shanks' two-out, two-run single in the sixth that scored Craig Nugen and Carl Lafferty.

Senior southpaw Chad Mead started the game for the Blue and allowed just one run on one hit and two walks in three innings of work.

The Rebels return six position starters and three starting pitchers from a team that went 30-23 a year ago. Ole Miss will open its season on Feb. 12 at Baylor, and will open its1999 home schedule on Feb. 16 against Austin Peay.
