Baseball Falls to Vanderbilt

OXFORD, Miss. - Cliff Johnston pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief and delivered a two-run bases loaded single with two outs in the top of the ninth to lead Vanderbilt past Ole Miss 11-9 in Southeastern Conference action Friday night.
The loss dropped the Rebels to 6-12 in the SEC, sixth-place in the SEC Western Division, and to 21-20 overall. The win lifted the Commodores to 23-16 and 5-14 in the SEC.
After Vanderbilt scored four runs in the seventh to take a 8-6 lead, Michael Rosamond tied the game with a two-run shot in the bottom half of the inning. Ole Miss added another run in the inning on Alex Wililamson's pinch-hit RBI single.
Johnston went 4-for-5 with three RBIs to lead Vandy's 17-hit attack. The Commodores out-hit the Rebels 17-13.
Rosamond was 3-for-3 at the plate for Ole Miss.
Johnston improved to 2-0 on the year with the win, while Justin Huisman suffered the loss to fall to 1-4.
The two teams will play game two of their three-game set Saturday at 4 p.m.
